Inspection towers,Oslo, Norway After a massive public outrage about the billboard-covered and massive inspection towers that can be seen all over the city Hafslund Nett decided to have some new inspection towers designed. That the former towers was designed less than ten years ago didn't seem to matter much. We felt this competition was yet another chance to address a matter we cared about: birds! We proposed to keep the towers, to replace perfectly good inspection towers was not a very sustainable move, and instead equip the towers with some soil at the bottom, a wooden rack for plants to grow along, and some bird houses behind it. This way the existing towers would introduce new habitats for the city birds. In these times of marble landscape architecture bushes are hard to come across. Palynopolis

Proposal for the idea competition Man Made Reformulate. We proposed a study of the Aker river as an infrastructure for urban food production as well as an apiary at the Vaterland Park. Awarded Runner-Up "PALYNOPOLIS directs our attention towards the biosphere and the subtle eco-systems that play a direct role in the structure of our cities. By suggesting a series of beehive harvest units to be placed in the green belt around the Aker River, which runs north-south through Oslo, the authors want to show the importance of counter-acting the decline of biotopes in and around our cities today. PALYNOPOLIS distinguishes itself by its friendly form of activism and the use of animal-architecture to tell a story in the context of the Triennale. The authors could have chosen more problematic places in the urban fabric and thereby delivered the message more forcefully. The authors propose their Triennale exhibition as a first step for a new type of urban gardening, inviting the public to bring flowers and plants for pollination into these urban beehives along the Aker River in Oslo...The beekeepers in their white protective suits could be envisioned as shadows, urban ghosts, that follow any architectural event, perhaps even any project. A new type of awareness is then positively raised through this proposal". Quote from Jury Report. See the competition page for a full description. - Link In collaboration with Christina C. Tolfsen.

Bergen International Festival

See text below Fullscreen Bergen International Festival / Festspillene i Bergen Background Bergen International Festival is a music and cultural festival to be held in Bergen in late May and early June each year. The festival is the largest of its kind and contains a wide range of events in music, theater, dance and visual arts at the national and international level. Concerts are held in the Grieg Hall and Haakon's Hall, in the four composer homes on Siljustøl, Trolhaugen, Lysøen and Valestrandsfossen as well as in a number of city churches, streets and squares. The first festival was held in 1953. Concept: workshop / behind the scenes. The festival's former premises were in an older bank building with large individual offices and for their new offices wanted open plan offices for increasingly project based work. We have therefore prepared a project with a high degree of flexibility. The use of the premises changes during the year with a shift from planning period to the festival period in which both the activity and number of employees increases. It requires flexibility both in the workforce and in the use of the premises. We also proposed to facilitate the ability to organize small concerts and exhibitions in the new premises and that way linking the festival as an organization closer to the events they hold. The festival offices are imagined as workshops where the festival is made, but also as the activity behind the scenes of what's happening in front of the curtain. We have focused on a production logic where it must be clear that this is a place where you make something. Hence the element of wooden framework which can give the feeling that the project is not fully completed, and glass walls with frames and profiles hidden from the outside so that the boxes rather look like open spaces. Boligbrakker

See text below Fullscreen Boligbrakker This report is our response to a parallel assignment initiated by the City of Oslo that will lead to new public policies for the development of temporary residential barracks. Our contribution proposes that the workers, who are often carpenters and other craftsmen, can participate in the design of such temporary residential complexes. We want a focus on what such temporality means for workers' ability to integrate into the local communities and will discourage that the focus will be on making such developments palatable with attractive facades and green outdoor areas. Ing) Status: Parallell Commission December 2013 Client: Oslo Kommune Location: Oslo
